"Changing the Tune of a Nation: Music as a Political Force" Recommended

As part of its GOAt program (which stands for “Globally Occupied Attention”), the Chicago Council on Global Affairs presents the panel discussion Changing the Tune of a Nation: Music as a Political Force tonight at Sonotheque. Senegalese hip-hop artist Baay Musa, Reader music critic Peter Margasak, drummer and vocalist Katherina Bornefeld of Dutch avant-punks the Ex, and University of Pittsburgh ethnomusicology professor Adriana Helbig will talk about the potential of music to catalyze political change. The discussion will be moderated by Jon Langford of the Mekons and followed by a showcase of African hip-hop presented by Nomadic Wax.
