Chaplin's Keystone Shorts

Discovered by Mack Sennett in a British review touring the states, Chaplin was set to work grinding out one- and two-reelers, sometimes at the rate of two a week, in the company of Keystone's other stars—Mabel Normand, Fatty Arbuckle, Chester Conklin. The early Chaplin is a flat, aggressive, often brutal character, at times barely distinguishable from his grotesquely made-up colleagues, but hints of the subtle, naturalistic style that would soon endear him to audiences the world over peek through. This selection contains Between Showers, Tango Tangles, Face on the Bar-Room Floor, His Prehistoric Past, The Knockout, and The Rounders.
