Chelsea Peretti Critic's Choice Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: April 27-30 2011

Since her viral beginnings--creating Internet phenoms like the New York City Rejection Line ("Someone won't leave you alone?") and the elaborate joke that is blackpeopleloveus.com--Chelsea Peretti has adapted her offbeat comedy for prime time as a writer on NBC's Parks and Recreation. Like Amy Poehler's character on that show, who makes awkward jokes in an attempt to relate to the world around her, Peretti relies on self-deprecating humor and cynical observations to curry favor with a technology-armed, hypercritical audience. Peretti's stand-up act features PowerPoint presentations and audience interaction. Expect an uninhibited performance in which she makes herself the butt of most of her jokes. Or, alternatively, the face of them: Peretti's said she hates being called exotic because of her prominent nose--she'd much rather parade around on Halloween as a toucan. --Marissa Oberlander
