Chicago Black Artists Open House

When: Sat., Nov. 6, 1 p.m. 2010

Presenting: James V. Allen Steven Barrett DeAndre Harris Cheryl Williams Mylia Tiye Mal Jaza Pennie Brinson Marvin J. Scott Lovietta Simpkins Teya Arisa Shasta Bady Franklin Armstrong Willie Williams Vonnett Thurman Quinethel D. Brown LaDonna Hall The depressive state in which Allen creates most of his work is palpable, using cool blues, dark purples to capture highly sullen moments, imagine dead slaves, criminals, the desperate, lonely. His works, deeply personal, elicit individual interpretations, the context of the pain being portrayed is unknown, unclear. His works are haunting and vocal, remain a great conclusion to the turbulent journey the artist faced.
