A pop-up bookstore and "literary spectacle" comes to Uptown this weekend: the Chicago Book Expo, presented by Chicago Writers House in partnership with Uptown United. More than 40 Chicago publishers will participate in the event, spread over 20,000 square feet between a former Borders (4720 N. Broadway) and the basement of the Uptown Broadway Building, rumored to have once been a speakeasy (4701 N. Broadway). Auxiliary events include the Preface Reading Series (11/14-11/18), a literary nonprofit fair (11/19), and a performance by the band Joan of Arc of a new soundtrack to the Charlie Chaplin silent film His New Job (11/19, 8 PM, Saint Augustine College, 1345 W. Argyle, $10). —Julia Thiel Among participating local presses and print publications are &Now Books, Agate Publishing, Allium Press, Ampersand, Another Chicago Magazine, Arsenic Lobster, Chicago Center for Literature and Photography, Chicago IRL, Court Green, Curbside Splendor, Drag City Books, Featherproof Books, Green Lantern Press, Grow Books Press, Knee Jerk, Make, Nan Bu Nan Books, Requited, Rose Metal Press, Sara Ranchouse Press, Short Pants Press, South Loop Review, Switchback Books, and Zoo Mouse Key Press.
