The 23rd Chicago International Children's Film Festival ranges from collections of short films suitable for preschoolers to dramatic features for school-age kids. Among the latter are the French animation Kirikou and the Wild Beasts (2005), a sequel to Kirikou and the Sorceress (Sat 10/21, 1 PM, Facets Cinematheque); the German live-action feaure Hansel and Gretel (Sun 10/22, 2 PM, Beverly Arts Center); the Finnish time-travel adventure Unna and Nuuk (Sun 10/22, 3 PM, Facets Cinematheque); and the Hans Christian Andersen biography Young Andersen (Sun 10/22, 4 PM, Beverly Arts Center). Professional actors will be on hand to read subtitles aloud for programs geared to kids nine and under.
