Chromeo, Mayer Hawthorne & the Country, Sammy Bananas Early Warnings (Music) Soundboard Recommended

When: Fri., Sept. 30, 9 p.m. and Sat., Oct. 1, 7 p.m. 2011

When Chromeo debuted with She's In Control in 2004, they seemed like a one-note novelty act whose quasi-Hall & Oates shtick would hold the attention of the electroclash crowd for a few months at most. But Dave 1 and P-Thugg have managed to carve out a pretty impressive career, building a fan base that includes aged former electroclashistas and much of the current crop of American Apparel-clad neoravers. Chromeo's continued success is doubtless due in part to their perfect balance of sincerity and sneer; their recent Solange Knowles-assisted single, "When the Night Falls"—off last year's Business Casual (Atlantic)—could have been a hit when the 80s first happened, and its video features the pair impregnating attractive women by the roomful. —Miles Raymer Mayer Hawthorne & the County and Sammy Bananas open. 9/30 is sold out and 17+, 10/1 is all ages
