Ciao | Chicago Reader

A dead Texan lives on in the memories of two gay men: an Italian sophisticate he got to know on the Internet (Alessandro Calza), and a longtime buddy in Dallas who wanted more from him than their platonic relationship permitted (Adam Neal Smith). When the two mourners meet, they discover they have more in common than their connection to the deceased, and their ruminations are marked by undercurrents of sexual tension. Writer-director Yen Tan steers clear of the maudlin, building empathy and suspense, while cinematographer Michael Roy, shooting in high-definition video, underscores the Dallas friend's mixed emotions with a palette of cool greens and blues.
