CineJam | Chicago Reader

Of those available for preview, my favorite of these shorts by women, screening as part of Estrojam, is also the least visually expressive. In Tara Jepsen and Beth Lisick's Diving for Pearls, the two directors play comics at a hot springs resort. The gags aren't funny, but the flat look and exaggerated performances offer an insightful parody of TV. Also of interest is Marie Walz's More Good Times, which slows down and reworks the opening of the sitcom Good Times, again commenting on TV by turning a glitzy montage into almost meditative images of Chicago. Some of the others, such as Guinevere Turner's Hung (five lesbians consider acquiring a penis for a day), are entertaining but otherwise undistinguished.
