Clitoris Stories The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through July 12 2009

Writer-performer Tina Haglund opens this evening of skits, monologues, and musings about "the pearl" by declaring that Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues single-handedly made public discourse regarding the vagina acceptable (apparently a century of feminism and the sexual revolution don't count). Haglund's dogged navel--well, clit--gazing makes much of this two-and-a-half-hour show feel several decades out of date. She and her ten-person ensemble act as though the organ were as mystifying to a contemporary fringe-theater audience as a comet to medieval clerics. The performers are savvy and engaging--Jenn-Anne's skittish turn as a harried soccer mom with time to masturbate only once a week is one hilarious high point--but Haglund recycles only a few obvious ideas for most of the evening. --Justin Hayford
