Coma | Chicago Reader

Genevieve Bujold thinks something strange is going on at the hospital where she works, and it turns out to be more or less what you'd expect, although not as well developed as you'd like. Michael Crichton's slow-paced thriller must have begun with something to say about the morality of the medical profession, but whatever it was is lost in the shuffle of unnecessary narrative detail. It has its one big grisly scene, though (involving a roomful of classroom cadavers), which should have done wonders for the word of mouth (1978).
