A panel discussion commemorating the Great Irish Famine and Choctaw Donation. • Gary White Deer, Choctaw Nation • Professor Maureen Murphy, Hofstra University • Mary Pat Kelly, Author, ‘Galway Bay’ • Frances Hagemann, Board President of the Mitchell Museum The panel will discuss the history of the Irish Famine and the Choctaw “Trail of Tears”, the similarities between the plight of the people, the donation by the Choctaw Nation, how they have each coped as a nation and how the post-traumatic effects are still in existence. Supported by Culture Ireland and the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
