Elegant old-style Drake Hotel lounge.

Restaurant Details

This dimly lit hotel lounge with wood-paneled walls and live piano music seems like the perfect place to launch an affair. The Scotch whiskey menu is extensive, and it claims to be the second bar in Chicago to have broken out the suds at the end of Prohibition. Foodwise, there's an adequate selection of room-service-y bar-food offerings such as chicken fingers, salads, and sandwiches, with a few entrees like steak and pasta to round things out. I tried to work my mouth around the juicy hand-pressed cheeseburger served on an immense bun, while my companion made do with the meager vegetarian choices, opting for the baked goat cheese on baguette and grilled portobellos, both off the starters menu. Each dish came adorned with heaps of greenery. The goat cheese baguette met expectations. The portbellos were served like a salad, thick slices tossed around in a bed of fresh spinach. As you’d assume at the Drake, service was attentive and accommodating. The prices also reflect the hotel setting: two appetizers, a burger, and two beers rang in at an expense-account tally of 50 bucks.
