Though cover-band season is truly year-round, Covers for Cover—now in its sixth iteration—has become something of a holiday tradition. Produced by Mia Park, who’s probably most recognized as the longtime cohost of the local music-TV program Chic-a-Go-Go—a stage she shares with wise-cracking rat puppets Ratso and Rattina—the evening features a rapid-fire lineup of all-female rock ’n’ roll cover bands hammering through hits by the Cure or Ace of Base or Queen or Beyonce. Participants include members of Mucca Pazza, Girl Group Chicago, and the Pamphleteers, among others, and Park tells me that every year at least one band forms specifically for the event. (Slutter, a female Kiss cover act that came together in 2009 specifically for the show, has since gone on to become a legitimate band—probably for more opportunities to don face paint.) Proceeds from Covers to Cover benefit Teen Living Programs, a nonprofit that focuses its efforts on finding solutions for homeless youths in the 14- to 24-year-old range. And have no fear, Rattina will emcee. —Kevin Warwick The lineup, from headliner to opener: Impulsive Hearts, Killest Queen, Plastic Passion, Little Queens, Lady Sentinels, Little Missiles, Ass of Base, Pet Theories, and Girlband.
