Creature Feature Radio Hour: The Wolfman of Mummy Island Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through Nov. 2 2013

It's Halloween 1938, the night of Orson Welles's infamous War of the Worlds radio broadcast. But at a competing station, the show must go on—creepy producer, missing starlet, and reports of an alien invasion be damned. This new ensemble-devised screwball from Chemically Imbalanced Comedy goes for all the predictable radio soundstage gags, but the show's strongest part may be the loopy Wolfman radio drama itself, a sufficiently ironic tale filled with bizarre characters and entertaining voice work. The story that frames it feels slack in comparison, full of loose ends and awkward dialogue—at times it's like director Mark Logsdon's cast are unsure how to act when their characters aren't acting. But if the opening-weekend kinks get ironed out, this could make a quirky alternative to the usual Halloween fare. —Keith Griffith
