Dear Bill Wyman,

I was irritated by your review of Soundgarden in your "Critic's Choice" column [Section 3, June 10]. I thought a critic's choice would be more favorable, maybe even something you would choose to go see. But I was wrong, you chose the easy way out. It is much easier to write a negative piece about a popular band than to go out of your way to find a band you could recommend (you can take a lesson from the "Critic's Choice" reviews by Bill Meyer or Peter Margasak just a few pages earlier). Consider changing the name of the column or, better yet, don't attempt to write a "Critic's Choice."

If you can't say something nice . . .
