Dam-Funk; Abyss, Zainghis Khan, and Raj Mahal; Kool Hersh Soundboard Recommended

When: Thu., Oct. 13, 10 p.m. 2011

Back in the early 80s, pioneering electro artists like Egyptian Lover and Arabian Prince imagined a fantastical future where Kraftwerk beats, funky analog synths, and guys in outrageous sci-fi jumpsuits ruled supreme. That vision proved to be shockingly prescient—aside from the noticeable lack of widespread jumpsuit adoption—and a significant chunk of the current Top 40 consists of updates on their sound. LA producer Dam-Funk offers a classically minded take on the stuff, and his clean-lined, booty-oriented electro-funk is some of the best being made—check out last year's Adolescent Funk (Stones Throw) and the unreleased material he's recently uploaded from his personal vaults and posted to SoundCloud. —Miles Raymer DJ set. The Push DJs (Abyss, Zainghis Khan, and Raj Mahal) and Kool Hersh open. Dam-Funk also plays later tonight at Beauty Bar.

Price: $5 or free with an Empty Bottle wristband
