Dance With the Wind

A police chief suspects a con when his wife gives $30,000 to a ballroom dancer, and he orders an investigation. But this 2004 romantic comedy isn't a police tale, and it isn't very funny. Rather it's an extravagant paean to the beauty of dance, with the focus on the ballroom dancer, who cares about dancing only as an art form that makes him “unspeakably happy.” The 'Scope images of Park Jeong-wu's first feature, especially the close-ups, are often awkward until the dancing begins, suggesting that only in dance does human existence seem natural. In Korean with subtitles. 132 min.
