Star of Siam offshoot serving inexpensive, tasty Thai food in a nicer-than-usual setting.
Offshoot(along with Amarit) of the ever popular Star of Siam, purveying the same formula of inexpensive Thai dishes. The decor sets this one apart—the crimson walls provide a perfect backdrop for a collection of beautiful silk banners, carved busts, and masks; colorful murals cover the pillars in the center of the room, where a dozen sunken tables are located. The place fills up at lunch. The tod mun pla—eight walleye pike patties served with a cup of refreshing cucumber and peanut salad—is a standout, and the pla duk pad ped is a tasty although somewhat greasy entree: strips of tender catfish deep-fried and served with Thai eggplant, large slices of jalapeño, and spicy Thai basil in a red curry sauce. There's a pleasant raised outdoor patio to the east of the restaurant.
