Dating: Adults Embracing Failure Closing (Theater and Galleries) Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: Fridays. Continues through Aug. 1 2014

This exhilarating new comedy, written and performed by Josh Lanzet and Lindy Voeltner, might take on the hilarious snafus and defeats that accompany dating life, but its own skill at hooking and keeping admirers is expert. Playing a half-dozen quirky couples, these two sharp comics combine sweetness and snarkiness, vulnerability and warmth in a way that transcends rom-com cliches to get at truth. As a nagging girlfriend throwing a tantrum on a plane, fake crying and calling on strangers in nearby seats to support her arguments, Voeltner hits every hysterical note perfectly. Yet the pair can also put across an older couple's hesitant flirtation over a crossword on a park bench, a scene that's emblematic of the heartfelt optimism suffusing these stories. —Jena Cutie
