Daughter of Pridezilla The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through June 27 2015

Local "gay-lebrity" guests provide the fodder for short-form improv scenes performed by the GayCo ensemble. On the night I attended, Out Chicago radio host Scott Duff delivered seemingly off-the-cuff monologues about his experience as a theater teacher, a friend's peculiar genital-based party trick, and how much he loves "sucking cock" before miming a grossly specific fantasy involving Ricky Martin and Instagram. From those inauspicious and limited speeches, the LGBT troupe attempts to branch out of the stereotypes. The impulses of the group are solid; in particular, John Loos saves a lot of scenes. But when so much of the inspiration material retreads familiar topics—the Westboro Baptist Church, the importance of parade marching, queef jokes—it's hard not to feel like the humor exists in a gay vacuum. —Dan Jakes
