When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through Aug. 1 2009
Pity poor police detective Mac: he's got a slew of unsolved cases, a shady girlfriend, a partner who's taken the bad-cop concept too far, and a serious bout of the jitters. Or possibly the crazies. Who dunit isn't obvious, and I waited with some interest through meandering, cliched scenes to learn the answer. But the gory, totally ludicrous climax is a cheat, making me sorry I ever cared. Teetering at the precipice of nonsense, the script cries out for camp, and yet writer-director Manny Tamayo plays things straight, garnering a few unintentional laughs in the process. The cast of this Factory Theater show throw themselves into the play's unembellished stereotypes, but the only spark comes from Anderson Lawfer as supercreepy suspect Clarence. --Laura Molzahn
