This amiable coming-of-age picture concerns four teenage orphans living at a Catholic convent in the Australian outback. Older than most of the other wards, they've given up hope of ever being adopted, but during a holiday trip to the seaside they begin competing for the attentions of a young couple. Though familiar as an old shoe, this is straightforward and well told, capably adapted by Marc Rosenberg from a 1963 novel by Michael Noonan. Veteran TV director Rod Hardy demonstrates a fine sense of period detail despite some curious gaffes regarding pop songs. With Daniel Radcliffe, Christian Byers, and Teresa Palmer. PG-13, 103 min.
