Like Christmas itself, big-studio Christmas comedies can lead to suicidal thoughts. This one follows the depressing pattern of Surviving Christmas and Christmas With the Kranks: enforced holiday cheer gives way to bilious hatred, then hollow forgiveness. Christmas-happy dad Matthew Broderick becomes increasingly irate when Danny DeVito moves in across the street and begins turning his house into a Vegas-worthy light display, and their escalating feud eventually alienates their chirpy wives (Kristin Davis and Kristin Chenoweth). John Whitesell (Big Momma's House 2) directed. PG, 95 min.
