Den of Thieves Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays. Continues through Oct. 23 2011

A black Jewish safecracker, a stripper, a crack dealer, and a mousy kleptomaniac sit trussed up in a mafia chieftain's basement. One of them is going to die--but after waiting through the extensive exposition required to set up their dilemma, I had a hard time caring which one. Stephen Adly Guirgis's dark comedy is neither particularly tense nor funny, and Cory Glenn's direction for the Consortium Project is hit or miss. A pair of odd-couple wiseguys entertains as they debate the fate of their prisoners, but the relationships among the bumbling quartet lack zest and strain credulity. They're alternately drab and cartoonish, and their story--like the heist that got them into this fix--never quite gets off the ground. --Keith Griffith
