Dial With a Smile! An Office Musical Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays. Continues through March 29 2013

Winner of Gorilla Tango Theatre's 2012 I'm Writing a Musical competition, this Office Space-style piece focuses on American call-center workers whose jobs are being sent to India. The show's themes—outsourcing, workplace harassment, interoffice romance—feel tired, and neither Robert Curtis's book nor DJ Douglass's music advance them in any original way. The cast make the best of the material, bringing an earnest quality to lyrics like "Am I the IT of his dreams?" and "I just want my daytime view." In a funny lunchtime song, the resident dumb jock/stoner asks if he can dip "just the tip" of his pita chip into the pretty girl's hummus. —Marissa Oberlander
