Dinner With Friends The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through June 1 2014

Two married couples spent a decade together, dithering about New York, vacationing on Martha's Vineyard, raising generic kids. Now that one couple is divorcing, whatever will become of everyone's insular, privileged, exquisitely uninteresting lives? Playwright Donald Margulies wastes two bland acts probing this question, creating a world where dallying in art making or describing a shiraz's astringency is as close to social engagement as anyone gets (and for this he won a Pulitzer). In the end, the rich white people are sad to discover that things don't stay exactly the way you want forever, and priorities change as you age. Director Darrelyn Marx pays minimal attention to pacing and structure, leaving us with four people who sit around talking incessantly about themselves for two hours. —Justin Hayford
