Dear Reader,

I am wondering, what was the intent of the piece "Reeled in by Mario Kladis" and run in the November 8 Caught in the Net? Is the Reader aware that something of a concerted smear campaign has been launched against Kathy Kelly and Voices in the Wilderness (NYT 10/27/02, Washington Post 10/27/02, and Chicago Trib 11/2/02)?

Perhaps Kathy Kelly did not make the most prudent comment regarding Hussein's releasing of prisoners, but I do know that she has worked tirelessly on behalf of Iraqi civilians deeply affected by U.S. policy. She is hardly a "poor deluded soul(s)" about a cruel and inhumane fact of life in Iraq--namely that over the past 12 years U.S./UN sanctions have claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians. Nor is Ms. Kelly an apologist for Saddam Hussein. The work of Ms. Kelly and Voices in the Wilderness are a thorn in the side of President Bush's war on Iraq.
