Diversey Harbor Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through May 10 2009

Back in 2007, Theatre Seven of Chicago staged Marisa Wegrzyn's play-in-monologues in a storefront, paired with David Mamet's Sexual Perversity in Chicago. This time around, Wegrzyn's hypnotic little gem is holding its own all by itself on the Greenhouse Theater Center main stage. Brian Golden's cast (all returning from the original) resist the urge to overplay the twists in this tale of a mugging that has repercussions for four north-side twentysomethings, and Wegrzyn, thankfully, avoids a meditation on how We're All Connected, a la Paul Haggis's Crash. Compassionate, wry, and filled with small but sharply observed descriptions of Chicago's present and past (a subplot involves the Eastland disaster), Diversey Harbor may end up being as iconic in its own way as Mamet's more dyspeptic portrait of urban singledom. --Kerry Reid
