Do Division Street Fest: Black Mountain, Masked Intruder, Young Widows, Crown Larks, and others All Ages Early Warnings (Music)

When: Fri., May 29, 5:30 p.m. 2015

One of Chicago’s most consistently exciting neighborhood festivals, the Do Division Street Fest returns this weekend with a lineup that will fill a well-trodden stretch of Division with superloud and heady sounds. Festivities begin on Friday at 5:30 PM and take place between Damen and Leavitt. Of the festival’s two live-music stages, the east one at Damen is curated by the Empty Bottle, while the other at Leavitt belongs to Subterranean. The opening night features Canadian psych-metal outfit Black Mountain, with Louisville posthardcore band Young Widows and local psych experimentalists Crown Larks opening. Just west, incognito pop-punkers Masked Intruder headline and local punks the Brokedowns and Dog & Wolf play in support. Black Moth Super Rainbow front man Tobacco headlines the Bottle stage on Saturday, and Peanut Butter Wolf and Saba warm up the mikes beforehand (local bluegrass wild man Al Scorch kicks the day off at 1:30 PM). The cello-infused postrock of Murder by Death echoes from the west stage, with Pity Sex, Porches, and Springtime Carnivore showing support. The fest wraps on Sunday, with music starting at 1:15 PM. Nick Waterhouse headlines the Damen stage, and his openers include fuzzy-pop project Crocodiles and hefty local postpunks Meat Wave. English psych-pop band Temples headline Sunday at the Leavitt stage, with high-volume shoegaze revivalists Nothing and spaced-out Indiana emo trio Cloakroom opening. Food, drink, and local arts-and-crafts vendors will be posted all along Division until the fest shuts down each night at 10 PM. Admission each day is a $5 suggested donation, and proceeds go to the West Town Chicago Chamber of Commerce as well as a trio of local elementary schools.
