Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

Rated PG-13 92 minutes

The easygoing owner of a dilapidated gymnasium (Vince Vaughn) faces foreclosure unless he and his team of losers can win $50,000 in a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament; angling to take over his business, and leading a rival team of hard-bodied goons in the contest, is the obnoxious proprietor of a high-tech fitness center (Ben Stiller). As the WWF-style villain, Stiller misfires again and again, but Vaughn is reliably funny and Rip Torn has a great part as the underdogs' crotchety old coach. (Asked if part of his brutal regimen is really necessary, he bellows, “Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine? No! But I do it anyway, because it's sterile and I like the taste!”) Rawson Marshall Thurber directed his own script; with Christine Taylor (Zoolander), Gary Cole, and Hank Azaria.
