DONNAS

If nothing else, California bad girls the Donnas have earned their place in the books for introducing one of rock 'n' roll's great kiss-off lines: "You thought I would be brokenhearted / Maybe I would if you weren't so retarded," from "I Didn't Like You Anyway," on last year's Get Skintight (Lookout). That album, the group's third, is the first that lives up to the potential of the Donnas concept--the Ramones if they'd been jailbait, or the Runaways if they hadn't sucked. Of course vocalist Donna A., drummer Donna C., bassist Donna F., and guitarist Donna R. are old enough to be in college now, but Get Skintight offers one arrested-adolescence classic after another, including "Hyperactive" ("I'm hedonistic and I stay up all night / And I don't know what's wrong / And I don't know what's right"), "Party Action" ("You think he's yours but he's so mine / I saw his foosball moves and I knew he was right / Looks like you'll need another ride home tonight"), and of course "Get Outta My Room." They even redeem Motley Crue's "Too Fast for Love"--though if you ask me the genius cover choice would've been the premature-ejaculation anthem "Ten Seconds to Love." Friday, 6:30 PM, Metro, 3730 N. Clark; 773-549-0203.
