Don't Dress for Dinner New Year's Eve Performance

When: Wed., Dec. 31 2008

French playwright Marc Camoletti's sex farce offers unabashed escapist fun in this production by the Chicago-based British Stage Company. Translated by Robin Hawdon, the silly story charts how a simple attempt at infidelity escalates into a whirlwind of deception and mistaken identities involving a married couple, their lovers, a cateress who's not as innocent as she looks, and a well-stocked bar. But plotting isn't the point. Under the guidance of veteran director John Tillinger, a crack ensemble handles the play's rapid-fire repartee, racy double entendres, and broad physical comedy with aplomb. Leading man Jeffrey Donovan (of USA Network's Burn Notice) recalls Cary Grant with his sexy charm, athleticism, and gift for deadpan humor--but ex-Neo-Futurist Spencer Kayden steals the show as the wacky cateress. --Albert Williams The 10 PM show includes a champagne toast and "other great surprises."
