Double Standards

No doubt you folks were trying to drum up a little subtle irony by running Michael Miner's story "Rewarding Ethical Journalism--Whatever That Is" [November 24] on the same page as Ed Gold's all-too-regularly-featured "Bob Watch." Miner's story, after all, ends by saying that most people, asked who should receive a "people's journalism" award, picked Eric Zorn, for his hard-hitting persistence on the Rolando Cruz story. And Gold's series was originally triggered by his compassion fatigue at Bob Greene's hard-hitting persistence on the Baby Richard story. Cute. Proof once again that a newspaper doesn't have to cost money to be overpriced.
