Drinking & Writing Volume III: To Cure a Hangover | Haymarket Pub & Brewery | Theater & Performance | Chicago Reader

Drinking & Writing Volume III: To Cure a Hangover Closing (Theater and Galleries) Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: Saturdays. Continues through Feb. 11 2012

It's a rare discussion of alcohol that makes me not want to drink, but this Drinking & Writing Theater show accomplished that: as it turns out, considering the potential consequences of bingeing can be a bit of a buzzkill—which is too bad because the venue, Haymarket Pub & Brewery, has a lot of good beers on tap. Still, Neo-Futurists Steve Mosqueda and Sean Benjamin put on a pretty successful performance, offering entertaining accounts of their experiments with hangover cures—eggs with chorizo, cabbage, sex, hair of the dog, even Pedialyte popsicles—as well as readings from the literature of overimbibing. There's plenty of useful information about surviving the morning after, but don't bring your hangover with you: if you're already in survival mode, hearing about vomiting isn't likely to help. —Julia Thiel
