Drive Me Crazy

Melissa Joan Hart (of TV's Sabrina, the Teenage Witch) shows depth as a shallow high schooler who starts to question her social goals when a star athlete she's after eludes her. She persuades Adrian Grenier—a childhood friend she's dropped because he'd have compromised her popularity—to allow her to make him over so she'll have an envy-inspiring date for a big event. This clique-bashing romance is impressively nuanced, especially when it allows Hart silent close-ups that convincingly convey her changing values and desires. John Schultz (Bandwagon) directed a screenplay by Rob Thomas, based on a novel by Todd Strasser.
