Duck for President The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Oct. 20-Nov. 25 2012

Poor Farmer Brown. Unpopular on account of his levelheaded, chores-based platform, he gets unseated by Duck, a flamboyant feathered underling riding a surge of barnyard populism. Then, having gotten a taste of power, Duck sets his sights on higher office. Adapted from Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin's 2004 children's book about the electoral process and the downside of responsibility, James Grote's script features original music by George Howe, a playfully cartoonish ensemble, and an overly generous dose of adult winks. Shole Milos's production may resonate well with very young children, but many of the older kids at the matinee I attended seemed less keen on the baby talk. —Dan Jakes
