Dynamite | Chicago Reader

De Mille madness, from the dawn of his most demented period (1929). Kay Johnson is a society girl who must marry in order to inherit her family fortune; Charles Bickford, a convicted killer, is the natural choice for the short-term groom. But then Bickford is pardoned and decides to take his husbandly duties seriously. The film races from one insane complication to another with such dash and vigor that it catches you up completely—this is melodrama at its most extreme and entertaining, a De Mille specialty.
