Earth, Disappears, Holy Sons, J.R. Robinson (DJ set) Recommended All Ages Early Warnings (Music) Soundboard Image

When: Thu., Sept. 10, 7 p.m. 2015

With its focus on the numinous and atmospheric, the Empty Bottle’s carefully curated Beyond the Gate series, hosted in the north side’s beautiful Bohemian National Cemetery, has seemed all along like it was designed for a band like Earth. Last year’s Primitive and Deadly (Southern Lord), the Seattle trio’s first album to feature vocals since 1996, hints at a new direction that seems more outward focused, though without sparing any of the gloriously ponderous world-serpent slo-mo undulations that have been their signature over the last 20-odd years. Imagine hearing that Earth sound as the last light of a late-summer sunset dies away over the mausoleums and urn vaults and the awed crowd sprawls out on the lawn. I can’t think of a better way to mark the approaching end of outdoor-music season. And for god’s sake, don’t litter.
