Toronto gay-punk-porn legend Bruce LaBruce makes a rare Chicago appearance with six early Super-8 films in which he appears. None of them coheres as well as his funny and affecting mock autobiography Super 8-1/2 (1994), but most of them crackle with his singular mix of sex, stylish outrageousness, and general nuttiness. In Sexbombs! (1987), directed by his friend Candy Parker, a girl gives herself the tallest Mohawk ever, two guys rip each other's clothes off while dancing, and another guy makes love to his skateboard; the men's movements seem less erotic than chaotic. Best of the bunch is the audacious Slam! (1989), in which LaBruce rhythmically intercuts moshing punks with gay porn, the Carpenters songs on the sound track enhancing the interpretation-defying weirdness. 68 min.
