Eddie Vedder, Liam Finn Early Warnings (Music) Soundboard

When: Thu., Aug. 21 and Fri., Aug. 22, 7:30 p.m. 2008

Do you remember how in the 90s you thought that Pearl Jam was kind of the enemy? Poser grunge? That they were such hammy corporate sellouts, with their dressed-up 70s rock and careful rebelliousness, that even their good-hearted activist gestures seemed suspect? But now it’s 2008, and Eddie Vedder has seemingly grown more righteous and right-on with the years—so maybe you realize you can respect Pearl Jam even though you still don’t like them much. And then you hear the solo songs Eddie made for that movie about the kid who starves to death on the derelict bus in Alaska and you decide you shouldn’t hold your old feelings about Pearl Jam against him, because his voice is really pretty and he seems like a man of the people. Eddie Vedder is one of the greatest American talents ever to call Evanston home! He’s at least as great as Albert Tangora, holder of the world speed record on a manual typewriter. —Jessica Hopper
