Inexpensive, no-nonsense Mexican comfort food.
An incredibly inexpensive place for Mexican food, Buena Vista is just a tiny storefront on Broadway that nevertheless has a welcoming atmosphere. The walls are painted lovely shades of orange and yellow, and there's no blaring radio or TV to contend with. We were served chips with red and green salsa upon being seated--very tasty. It's BYO, but they do have the ususal jarritos and soft drinks. My enchiladas suizas came on a huge plate piping hot from the oven, and unlike a lot of places they were generous with the cheese. My friend got the carne asada, sliced paper-thin and juicy, with sauteed greens on the side. This place serves the kind of no-nonsense Mexican comfort food you could probably get all over Chicago, but they do it so well and so cheaply that it's hard to beat.
