Electra & Orestes The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through May 22 2011

Melissa Albertario's version of Sophocles' Electra comes awfully close to romanticizing teen suicide. The titular, tormented Greek princess is turned into a cutter (no, we're not spared the graphic depictions), and brother Orestes avenges his father's murder wearing Columbine-esque garb and a tote bag filled with guns and pipe bombs. Bowling for edginess, this production from 20% Theater Company does little to shed new light on the tragedy or justify its indulgent nihilism. --Dan Jakes
