Emotives Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Wednesdays. Continues through May 4 2011

Theatre Momentum's three-act, long-form improv focuses on "how the expression of feelings through language compels decisions and ultimately influences the lives of characters." On opening night that translated into a story about three siblings who find themselves at a crossroads when one of them becomes pregnant. "It's kinda like Alien, cuz it's gonna eat the rest of your life," observed childless brother Jeremy, played with understated aplomb by Jeff Quintana. Themes of spousal abuse, tested loyalties, and romantic uncertainty were underscored by monologues set between the acts. Some plot details got fuzzy and there was some narrative wheel-spinning. But the seven-member ensemble committed to the scenes with honesty, creating several charming moments. --Kerry Reid
