Epic Proportions The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through March 28 2010

Inasmuch as Project 891 Theatre Company's mission is to focus on lesser-known and forgotten plays, their decision to stage this 1983 farce by Larry Coen and David Crane is baffling: with a film adaptation in the works, it's not nearly as forgotten as it ought to be. The story follows the misadventures of two extras on the Depression-era set of Exeunt Omnes, a DeMille-esque chariot epic offering a smorgasbord of historical inaccuracies. Anna Schutz disarms as Louise Goldman, the nervous, beautiful extras director who tries to hold things together while broad comedy and chaos fall around her like plaster chunks from an ersatz frieze. But the humor--repetitive, buffoonish, and gigglingly sexual--feels like a relic of a bygone era. --Keith Griffith
