Fact & Fiction Closing (Theater and Galleries) New Review (Theater and Comedy) The Short List (Theater)

When: May 24-26 2012

Just about everything in this evening of paired monologues is mismatched. Playwright William Nedved is unfocused onstage; he tells an autobiographical tale about his sexual awakening as a high-school foreign exchange student, yet it’s so sketchy and anecdotal it comes off feeling inauthentic. Adam Silver, meanwhile, is a sure-footed, engaging actor whose richly detailed, fictionalized account of being stalked by a drug-addled filmmaker rings dazzlingly true. Nedved is trying to make a point about the interweaving of truth and fiction in everyone’s personal history, as he begins to spell out in the show’s metatheatrical finale. But Damaso Rodriguez’s production is too uneven and disjointed to allow for finding resonance in the muddle. –Justin Hayford
