In November 2003 multiplatinum rapper Jay-Z performed a sold-out farewell concert at Madison Square Garden; a few days before the release of this documentary, he was headlining the Garden again, but when you're mythologizing yourself, you can't let little details get in the way. Directed by Michael John Warren, this captures an energetic and meticulously orchestrated show with a steady stream of guest star cameos (Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, Beyonce, R. Kelly, Ghostface Killah). Video footage shows Jay-Z recording his supposed swan song, The Black Album, and in voice-over he offers not-so-candid meditations on his own success. Expect nothing but pure showbiz and you won't be disappointed. R, 109 min.
