Fade | Chicago Reader

David Connolly committed suicide not long after starring in this listless, muddled 2007 drama, a fact that makes watching it an even sorrier experience. He plays a soda machine vendor who's plagued by fatal familial insomnia, a sickness that kills not only sleep but reason; the grainy cinematography underscores his confusion and depression, and at one point, after hallucinating about castration, he chops off his own hand. His wife (Sarah Lassez) comes to share his desperation, though why she cuts up books is never explained. Apparently first-time writer-director Anthony Stagliano mistook incoherence for profundity. 74 min.
