To the editors:

I am writing in response to your review of the Heroes Inc. Ensemble production of Look Back in Anger [by Tom Boeker, July 15]. I attended the show the same evening you reviewed the production and I tend to agree with most of your criticisms. I do however disagree with some of your comments regarding the company. I do not understand your motivations or the purpose for your comments regarding the sponsors of the company. Producing theatre is expensive and help from any patron is important. Are you saying that it is wrong for the company to gain support from relatives? If so then where is a young company to find support? I also wonder how you conclude from the program that the sponsors "substantial financial support" to the company?

The company may have bitten off more than they can chew in producing Osborne's play, but I do not feel that your comments regarding the company and their supporters were justified or appropriate. In a time where the electronic media dominates the American audience, condemning a new theatre company for their program misspellings and support from relatives is not only detrimental to the future of the company but also discouraging to future new companies. Yes, "life is hard" but flippant and unnecessary remarks by the media does not make it easier.
