Feast Recommended The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through April 24 2010

Neighborhood homemakers, street vendors, restaurateurs, grocers, butchers, fisherman, farmers, and migrant workers shared their stories with Albany Park Theater Project's teen ensemble. The result is a theatrical smorgasbord on the theme of food and its role in various cultures. In one scene, a man recalls his unlikely friendship with his family's main source of income, the calf he tended as a boy. In another, a woman passes on her secret tamale recipe by means of an elegant, glittering song-and-dance routine. From food-stamp frustrations to chocolate delights under the covers, Feast is an imaginative and compelling taste of Albany Park's rich immigrant society. --Marissa Oberlander
